The LSSA Academy Team Offers Players 6 - 8 the Opportunity to Play Club Soccer

Recreational soccer, or rec soccer as it is more commonly known, is a great starting point for every young soccer player. Leagues are typically run by the local Parks and Recreation department and are a place where equal playing time is encouraged and the skill level of players varies drastically. Club soccer is the competitive version of youth soccer. In Club soccer the coaching staff has typically played competitive High School or College level soccer, are licensed by U.S. Youth Soccer and have a wealth of knowledge to share with younger players when it comes to player development. Lancaster Select Soccer Association, or LSSA, operates the Lancaster area’s Club soccer program.

For the youngest players, the LSSA Academy team is where it all starts. Boys and girls ages 6 - 8 looking for the next step in their soccer learning are encouraged to tryout for the Academy team. The team practices two nights a week during the Fall and Spring seasons and plays games against Academy teams from other area soccer clubs. “Kids learn a lot playing on the Academy team,” says LSSA's Soccer Technical Director, Shea Schmelzer. “They learn skills with the soccer ball, positioning on the field and how to work as a team to defend and move the ball. It’s a really well rounded program that gives kids who have excelled in rec soccer the opportunity to learn more.” The program also teaches the values of sportsmanship, caring for your teammates and of course having fun.

Is your child ready for Club soccer? Below are some items to consider:
  • How serious is your child taking soccer?
  • When you take them to practice, are they excited to go?
  • Do they kick the ball around at home or with friends?
  • Are you noticing that they are bored with the same old drills and techniques?

If you answered yes to the majority of these questions, then it is time to give some consideration to Club soccer. At only $50 per season (Fall and Spring) the Academy team is a great way for your child to experience Club soccer and all it has to offer. Tryouts for the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 seasons are taking place May 29, 30 & 31st from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm at the Lancaster Soccer Complex, 1710 E. Main Street. Click here for tryout details.
